![]() I know many people who run them in both autocross and track. Also the "weakness" of them is overblown. But, the equivalent-looking cheap wheel would be made out of cheaper metal that is quickly welded together.ĭon't care. For instance, Volk's VRG7 wheels are a forged one-piece construction, which is why it tends to be stronger since it's a single solid piece. Think about it, cheap wheel brands HAVE to cut costs somewhere, and more often than not, that cost cutting comes in the form of poor quality control and the quality of the materials used, as well as the manufacturing method. I'm not saying reputable wheel brands are indestructible, but they have a lower probability of going wrong than cheaper wheel brands do. I've yet to see stories of reputable wheel brands (Volk, BBS, Advan, OZ, Work) cracking under those amounts of pressure it's normally much more intense environments. I've seen hundreds of pictures/stories XXR's, Varrstoens, Rotas, etc. Name brand wheels break too, but the stories are less prevalent than those of cheaper wheels, and I would expect that these more reputable wheels most likely broke under forces much stronger than those that have the potential to break cheaper wheels. Third: If your friend only decided to run his BRZ ont he track on a whim once, why does he have a Brembo BBK on there? It must have either come off of a '04 STI (are there any other cars out there witha 5x100 bolt pattern that come with Brembos?) or he paid a lot of money that only adds weight and no real benefit to daily driving.īonus: My winter wheels are Rotas, I'm not deluded into thinking that they're amazing wheels or anything, but they look better than steelies and they aren't too expensive. ![]() ( ) while the article is a bit over enthusiastic on the brand I thought it was interesting. Second: interesting fact, Rota makes OEM wheels for some cars. Add to that the lower cost of replacing a Rota and it seems like a decent choice ( ) I think their logic is though that if something is going to break a rota it's also going to damage a name brand wheel enough to take it out of the race. Will my husband divorce me if I dehydrate tomatoes in his F-150 truck?ĭennis Collins, a Highway Accident Investigator at the National Transportation Safety Boardįirst: fun fact, Turn In Concepts uses Rota wheels on their time attack car. Having the hub balanced is not routine and likely more expensive (but only needs to be done once)./r/Cars is the largest automotive enthusiast community on the Internet. Having the wheel/tire balanced is easy and routine. If you remove a lot of material unevenly and upset the balance it will be easier to deal with if it is on the wheel. The balance is not likely to be a problem since it is so close to the center. The hub, however, is stressed at the point you will need to remove material from to make the wheels fit. The wheel is not stressed at the point you would remove material from it. It might be better to remove the material from the wheel. Ill try and report back my progress in case anyone else has similar problems. dont really want to mess with the wheel because i dont want any ballancing issues or blemishes. I think what im going to do is either grab different hubs/mounting pads or just grind the hub down. Towards the base of the front hubs is this oval shape not really circular and the rim almost sits but wobbles from side to side.
